Smooth finished white wall and ceiling corner

Residential services: Drywall repair, taping and finishing in Ottawa

Holes, cracks and damaged corners patched, taped and finished before paint, so the repair disappears.

Repairs you can't see

A bad drywall patch shows through paint: a raised edge, a visible seam or a ring around the repair. Good drywall work disappears. We patch, tape, mud and sand until the repair is flush with the wall around it, then prime and paint so the wall reads as one surface.

What we fix

  • Holes from doorknobs, fixtures, wiring and plumbing work
  • Cracks at seams, corners and around windows and doors
  • Damaged or dented outside corners
  • Nail pops and popped tape
  • Water-damaged sections, once the leak is fixed

For larger damage, we cut out and replace the section of board before taping and finishing it.

Why cracks come back

Ottawa's dry winters and humid summers make houses move a little, and that shows up as cracks at seams, corners and above doors and windows. A crack filled with filler alone usually reappears. Taping it properly before finishing makes the repair far more likely to stay put.

Matching the wall around it

Not every wall is perfectly smooth. Where walls have a light texture or an older finish, we match it so the repair blends in. For walls that have to look flawless, such as a large wall lit from the side by a window, we skim the whole wall rather than spot-patching.

Finished for paint

Drywall repair is part of our painting prep, so we finish it with the paint in mind: sanded smooth, primed so it doesn't show through the topcoat, and painted to match the rest of the wall or as part of a full repaint.

Small jobs are fine

A few holes from pictures and TV mounts before you sell, walls opened up by an electrician or plumber, a room after a renovation, or every wall in the house before a repaint: the standard is the same.

Drywall Repair, Taping & Finishing FAQ

Questions we get about this work.

Anything else? Ask us or call and we'll answer straight away.

Will the repair show after painting?

Not when it's done properly. We feather and sand each repair flush, prime it, then paint so the patch doesn't show through.

Can you just patch without painting?

We can, but a patched area almost always needs paint to blend in. We'll usually suggest painting the wall corner to corner so the colour is even.

Do you fix water damage?

Yes, once the source of the leak has been fixed. We replace the damaged board, then tape, finish and paint it.

Why does my crack keep coming back?

Usually because it was filled without tape, and seasonal movement opens it again. We tape cracks before finishing them so the repair holds.

How soon can a repair be painted?

The compound has to dry fully before it is sanded and primed. Small repairs can often be painted the same or the next day; larger ones need longer, and we plan the drying time into the schedule.

Can you match a textured wall?

In most cases, yes. We match light textures and older finishes so the repair blends in with the wall around it.
