Commercial services: Specialty coatings in Ottawa
Chroma-key studio walls, safety markings, stair nosings and spray-finished ceilings, for spaces where the finish has a job to do.
Chroma-key studios
A green screen only works if the colour is even. Joints, patches, shadows or a change in sheen all show up on camera and make the key harder to pull. We have painted chroma-key walls and full cycloramas, walls and floor together, finished seamlessly so the light falls evenly and no joints show.
A good key comes from a matte finish, so lights don't create hot spots; the same product and colour on every surface, so nothing shifts between walls; and smooth coves or careful joints where wall meets floor. Floors get walked on and are usually the first part of a cyc to need attention, so they can be recoated on their own.
Studio work starts with smooth, well-prepared surfaces and careful, even application, and ends with a walk-through with your team before we sign off.
Safety colours and markings
High-visibility colours help people see hazards before they reach them. Contrasting stair nosings are a requirement in many commercial and multi-unit stairwells, and we keep markings crisp and consistent so they read clearly. Common safety-colour work includes:
- Stair nosings and the leading edges of landings
- Column bands and corner guards in garages and loading areas
- Handrails and guardrails
- Curbs, bollards and other low obstacles
- Marked walkways and no-go zones on floors
Spray-finished open ceilings
Exposed ceilings are a popular look for offices, restaurants and retail, but they only look intentional when everything up there is one clean colour. We spray-finish structure, ducts, conduit and services, commonly in black, for an even open-ceiling look in commercial fit-outs.
Where possible, open ceilings are sprayed before furniture and finishes go in, with everything below masked or covered. Sprinkler heads, detectors and anything else that mustn't be painted are protected first.
Tell us what the finish has to do
If a surface needs to perform, not just look good, describe how it's used at the site visit. We'll recommend a coating and a process, and put both in writing in the quote.

Specialty Coatings FAQ
Questions we get about this work.
Anything else? Ask us or call and we'll answer straight away.
Can you paint a full cyclorama, floor included?
Yes. We have finished chroma-key walls and floors together as a seamless cyclorama for a television studio.
Can you paint stair nosings without closing the stairwell?
Stairwells can usually be done in sections so one side or one flight stays usable. We'll plan it with you, especially where the stairwell is an exit.
What colour do you spray open ceilings?
Black is the most common, but any colour works. We'll confirm the colour and the finish in the quote.
What makes a chroma-key wall key well?
An even, matte colour with no visible joints, patches or changes in sheen, lit evenly. Careful preparation and application are what get you there.
Can you touch up a green screen floor without redoing the walls?
Yes. Floors wear first. We can recoat the floor and blend it at the cove so the cyc keys evenly again.
Do you paint over sprinkler heads?
No. Sprinkler heads, detectors and labels are masked before any spray work starts.
