Commercial services: Gymnasium painting for Ottawa schools and recreation centres
Walls, trim, feature colours and safety markings for school gyms and rec centres, finished around the school calendar.
Big rooms, tight windows
A gymnasium is one of the hardest rooms in a building to schedule. It's in use almost every day of the school year, the walls are tall, and the work has to be finished before students and teams come back. We plan gym repaints for the summer break, school holidays or weekends, and we commit to the finish date in writing.
What a gym repaint includes
- Full-height walls, prepared and repainted
- Trim, doors, frames and railings
- Feature walls and stripes in school or club colours
- Court-side and wall safety markings
- Lift work for high walls and structure
Preparing concrete block walls
Most gym walls are concrete block, which is porous and full of pinholes. Painting straight over bare block leaves a rough, patchy finish. Bare or damaged block is cleaned, repaired and primed with a block filler so the topcoat goes on evenly, and previously painted walls are cleaned, scuff-sanded and spot-primed so the new coat bonds.
Finishes that take a beating
Gym walls are hit by balls, bodies and equipment every day and get scrubbed often. We choose durable, washable finishes for the lower, high-impact zones and sheens that clean up without showing every scuff. Doors, frames and railings get harder enamel finishes.
Working at height, safely
Gym walls are tall, and much of the work is done from lifts. Work areas are cordoned off, equipment is never left where students or staff can reach it, and the floor stays covered under every lift and ladder.
Done the way school boards need it
We're used to working for school boards and facilities departments: formal quotes, written scopes for approval, insurance and WSIB certificates, and references on request. On site, the work area is closed off, the floor is protected for the whole job, and the room is left clean and ready for use.
When we're finished, we walk the gym with your facilities staff before we sign off.
Recreation centres and community facilities
The same approach works for community centres, recreation facilities and multipurpose rooms. If the space is booked most evenings and weekends, we'll plan around those bookings and phase the work.

Gymnasiums & Recreation Facilities FAQ
Questions we get about this work.
Anything else? Ask us or call and we'll answer straight away.
Can you finish a gym over the summer?
Yes. Summer break is the most common window for our gym work. Book early, because school boards tend to want the same weeks.
Do you protect the gym floor?
Yes. The floor is covered and protected for the whole job, and the room is cleaned before we hand it back.
Can you paint stripes and feature walls in school colours?
Yes. Feature colours and stripes are a regular part of our gym work. Send us the colours or we'll match them on site.
How long does a gym repaint take?
It depends on the size of the gym, the height of the walls and how much preparation they need. The quote includes a schedule with a firm finish date, planned around your summer or holiday window.
Do you paint the game lines on the floor?
Hardwood floor sanding and game lines are a separate specialty. We look after the walls, trim and markings, and plan our schedule around your floor contractor's so the two jobs don't collide.
What paint do you use on gym walls?
Durable, washable finishes suited to concrete block and high-impact areas, from the major manufacturers. The products are listed in the quote, and low-VOC options are available.
